elmira in chaos - 2000-06-20
Skip up until now:
I am coming home rather late tonight, later than usual, and I know I'm going to regret it tomorrow, because I'm getting a little sick, I think. But as I was coming home tonight, this suburban hell was quiet as it always is, and totally dark, except for the street lights which flicker on and off. About fifty metres from my house there is a very small lake or a very large pond that has collected throughout the years. It is large enough to have a 'no swimming' sign posted by it...
Anyhow, the strangest thing was happening over there... Noise. There is never any noise around here at three in the morning. I'm not sure what it was... I'm fairly certain it was animal, although which animal, I haven't a clue. Not one I have ever heard before...
It's kind of funny, because I remember reading, long ago, about New Hamburg, a community similar to this one, where an unidentified reptile-like creature emerged from the river and terrorized the downtown one day in the fifties. This is immediately what I thought of... And it makes sense, because Elmira is just screaming for something like this. Elmira is screaming for an urban legend, or some kind of unexplainable chaos. The community is perfect for it.
But little boys have their imaginations... It was probably just some sort of frog I had not ever heard before.

Speaking of Elmira, and chaos, I had a dream where the high school burned down with me inside it, having to make a great escape. But then once I was outside, it was not Elmira at all... We were on an island in Georgian Bay. But the thing is, I was not so much perturbed that I had almost been burned to death, nor by the fact that a place in which I have spent a great deal of time was reduced to a skeleton, rather, my main concern was getting a photograph of the burning building. I never did, because the camera I got turned out to be frozen on the inside.
At least my dreams are moving away from the disturbing trend they had been following. Something a little less bed-wetting.

Tomorrow:
I will likely be sick. I am going to see Natalie in the afternoon one last time before she goes away to camp, and then, hopefully, I'm going to finish the rest of the code for my new index page. It looks similar to fishy's page, which was really not my intention. By the time I got it all hammered out, though, the resemblances were striking.
Normally I would change it for fear of Dustin or Antoni type people accusing me of 'copying', or something, but then I realize that the PAGE may look the same, but the content is going to be way different, and the content is all that matters, you presumptuous bastards....
